For some variety I ordered the Hello Fresh Box
I was avoiding ordening food online. I already order everything online except groceries. Well it has come to that point now too. The Hello Fresh box is filled with ingredients and a little cook book. They also tell you in which order to eat the different meals, according to the expiry date. The ingredients are fresh and delivered cool.
My colleagues have ordered the box already many times and they were very enthusiastic so I couldn’t resist anymore. I had to try this too, though I was sceptic. When ordering already I lost my patience but I managed. Once I wanted to place the order of the first box the website was failing me. What I don’t want to do but had to, I called the customer service Yes indeed, the first box you can’t adjust yourself. What? Okay, let’s get over it and get the first freaking box after two weeks of online annoying.
There is something about fresh groceries, a full fridge and a colourful vegetable basket in my kitchen. Somehow it exited me and actually gives me a certain rich feeling.
Strange enough I was still exited to try it out. When I got a text that it would arrive at 20.30 o’ clock I was disappointed because I wanted to have diner from Hello Fresh that day and that sounded like a long wait. Luckily they arrived way too early, at 18.30 and we had diner a little earlier then expected. There is something about fresh groceries, a full fridge and a colourful vegetable basket in my kitchen. As the box arrived in the evening I immediately started cooking with it. The first meal was orzo. What? Yes orzo. Never heard of it, there we go. It was a type of risotto. Would I like it? Well, just try. I was so amazed about the few ingredients, almost suspicious. I even felt like adding some ingredients! Would this really be delicious? Still amazed about it, I can say Yes! The next day was another dish I never eat normally, but delicious too.
Though it’s not cheap, it’s a great concept. You pay more for your groceries but you receive more then you can eat and all is in the right proportions. Except for meat or fish, those are like a 100 grams per person and in my opinion way too little. I rather have 1 or 2 veggie dishes a week to balance it out. Having said that, the recipies are clear and easy to follow. The dishes are quick and simple but tasteful. You don’t need lots of equipment or extra added ingredients and if you do, you are informed upfront. If you’re not a great cook, if you hate grocery shopping or just have limited time, this is an easy way for healthy food. Oh and Jamie Oliver has joined the program and is adding recipes too!
